Sometimes people come into our lives to inspire people, some come to our lives to teach people, and others do it for the love of people. I have learned the power of volunteering and the reason it can make huge change in people's lives. I was a person that already hurt with life and never thought I could of ever received a break. In the mist of my master's program, I was in a serious financial dilemma. There were some complications with my financial aid and I was in a situation of homelessness. I was couch surfing for several months in the program and used the free school events as a way to get food for myself. Sometimes I would eat in a fast food place, so I would not let my other classmates see I was struggling. I did not understand how someone that pushed for success could fall so low. Eventually, I did find a person that allowed me to sleep on his couch for the time being. In exchange I would do security work and help him with nutrition course. I said "OK", it was a win, win situation for me. As I was preparing for my 2nd half of my master's program, the guy decided to move back to NY. I was in south Florida for this program and did not have enough money to find an apartment. I never forget, it 4:58 pm and I was in tears because at this point, I had decide to live on the street or live in my car. I was preparing to live in my car until a friend of mine in my church, volunteered his home to a stranger he never knew. I was kinda hesitate at first because I was already discouraged by previous roommates. I lived in a trailer when I first moved to south Florida and I had roommates that would not talk to me and made the situation very difficult to live in. However, he was a friend at a church that I was active in and I decided to take the risk. I grew to know him and his wife throughout the 4 months. I have learned that we like the same things, enjoy similar foods, and we all had a heart of caring for others. The experience helped me started my podcast social sports chat. My back story is just one example of many stories that encouraged people every single day. I never forgot how much love I had for the couple. When you volunteer to help people it can help you more than it help others. I was not sure if it did help that couple as much as it helped me in that situation. But, when I pay it forward, it helped me to be inspire to help others.
