Every business is complex. Every business offers endless opportunities for things to "work on." But how do we know that we're making the best investments to grow the business? How can we identify the things that really move the needle? It's for this core challenge - faced by every business leader - that I wrote 8 Blocks (GamePlan Press, 2015). It's designed to enable anyone to get a clear view of what really drives the desired outcomes, both inside and outside the business. The 8 Blocks are the four critical Internal Realities and four critical External Realities that every business must address in order to grow effectively. These are realities that are often ignored or mistakenly-assumed in the scrum. But for the person who really wants to take the business somewhere, they have to be addressed. Of course, nobody wants to slog through a dry framework. No matter how powerful, if it isn't fun and engaging, it won't stick. So I use stories and examples that illustrate the power of the 8 Blocks, that highlight the realities in tangible ways. Most are humorous, some are a little outlandish, but all are taken from my experiences with a whole slew of businesses. And whenever possible I like to engage the audience with some interaction, even if it's just a shouted response or a "raise-your-hand-if-you've-ever-been-blindsided-by-this-one." Whether they're starting a new business or figuring out what to do with an old one, your audience members will walk away from 8 Blocks with a powerful lens for seeing their businesses - and their opportunities - with clarity. And they'll know what to do next.
