The most unique aspect of this presentation is the focus on a definitive connection between bullying and its long-term psychological impact. This is an extremely serious issue that often goes unnoticed and undetected during school years. This presentation will provide the details that would be helpful for all school staff, parents and mental health professionals in detecting and intervening appropriately. This is also an excellent presentation for students of all ages because they understand what the long-term suffering might be like. Participants will also be able to gain an interesting perspective on why bullies do what they do. Specifically, the presentation addresses the following: (1) it provides details on how prolonged bullying can trigger devastating long-lasting mental illness; (2) it describes several characteristics of this disease that will be extremely helpful for everyone involved; (3) it demonstrates impact of PTSD from bullying and how it manifested itself within the disease; (4) it sheds some light on why bullies do what they do (through discussion of a confrontation with a past bully;); (5) it demonstrates how bullying can torment a victim long after the school years are over.
