On December 31st, nearly half of Americans make a New Year’s resolution. People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions, but only 8% are successful in reaching their goal. Why? Well, maybe they don’t try hard enough, or they are lazy. Those assumptions are inaccurate and don’t do justice to what we now know about the science and psychology of success.
