I Still Buy Green Bananas
During Kim’s breast cancer treatment, she went to the store one day and bought a bunch of green bananas. To her, they signified hope – hope that she would be here when they ripened. We all need hope – something to look forward to, something that drives us in our lives, even on those days when we think we can't get out of bed. And the truth is, we all have those days and those moments in our lives. Kim has had her fair share: her high school guidance counselor labeling her and telling her she wasn’t college material; her diagnosis with breast cancer at the age of 30 while planning her son’s 2nd birthday; losing two young friends and an aunt to the same disease; and facing a divorce which left her alone for the first time in her life. After hearing Kim’s story, audiences will want to rush to the grocery store and buy those green bananas to find that hope in their own lives, even in the midst of a cancer diagnosis, a divorce, losing a job or other challenges in life. *This is a favorite amongst cancer thrivers.
