This humorous and motivational presentation portrays the importance of attitude in the health care field. As life hits us with all kinds of “stuff,” the comparison of spilled bedpans and spilled milk is just too coincidental. Sometimes in life we spill our milk but many times in healthcare we get a bedpan spilled on us. Unpleasant effects are a daily occurrence, but we learn from our experiences, as well as, our patients’ resiliency, that attitude is the little thing that makes a big difference. At work, attitude affects morale, retention, turnover, and quality of care. At home, attitude affects happiness, joy, spirituality, and peace. Attitude is all about how we react to that spilled bedpan, how we deal with it, if we can laugh or maybe even just cry. Attitude affects our behavior, which in turn is then demonstrated through our job performance. Our attitude determines how we do our job. The way in which we treat our customers and co-workers, plus our ability to prevent negative feelings from affecting our performance, is crucial to our productivity and relationships in the workplace.
