Program on Values 1. Read a story 1 out of 8 or talk about the stories open discussion: they answer questions on every chapter. The book written by me "Emmy Brooklyn to Puerto Rico." An 11 year old girl that Experiences challenges growing up... Topics Chapter 1: Self esteem: Emmy's white shoes; Encourages kids to learn to know and love themselves. Chapter 2: Inferiority complex: Emmy's silence; She had two languages Spanish and English. Plus she had a twin where she only spoke to her in school. Chapter 3 : Bullying: The Teachers Pet; how some bullies would tease her because she helped the teacher in class. Chapter 4: Self awareness: How shot president Kennedy? "Some" Children know about their president because they hear it from their families when speak about politics. Chapter 5: Self Service: My surrounding; has to do with 1968 blackout in NY City and how Emmy would volunteer to help her mom with the grownup chores. Chapter 6: Perseverance and integrity: No Electricity; How she loved her family no matter what the situation they were confronted with! Chapter 7: Responsibility: November 9, 1965 "The black out, in the Big Apple New York City." How Emmy would help neighbors by asking if she could help them, lit their candales. Chapter 8: Developing into a puberty; Her parents decided to leave NY and live Puerto causing Emmy to become nervous and exited at the same time, she became a "senorita.." Back of Book: “Emmy’s stomach was hurting. This would happen to her every time she was nervous, and school would give her that feeling. Learning was fun at home, especially with her one big brother and sisters. But for some reason school was a scar place for. Her big eyes would take in everything as she walked to school every day with the feeling of turning around and going back home. She was in elementary school. Second grade. She did not speak to her peers in class. She was not accustomed to being with people other than her family. Emmy would just look around the classroom, she felt small and scared.” If you’re looking for a book to help with the topic of self-esteem, inferiority complex, self-service, being bullied etc.…this is the book for parents and or teachers as a resource to have on your salve.
