I am Joan Stenzler, Founder and Director of The Institute for Helping Professionals. IHP is an organization dedicated to helping professionals understand and appreciate the psychological experience of being a patient or client and to use this knowledge to communicate in a way that is skillful, compassionate and effective.
In the long run, if the people that you work with feel safe, respected and heard, they are far more likely to be cooperative, receptive to new ideas and appreciative of the time and effort that you or your organization dedicates to his/her situation. In turn, staff satisfaction is likely to climb as well as the quality of service you are providing. All in all, a win, win situation!
Now let me tell you a little about myself.
I am a licensed clinical social worker, practicing holistic psychotherapist, organizational consultant and specialist in Mind-Body technologies. I am a teacher, educator, innovator and dynamic program designer and presenter. I love leading and inspiring professionals at work to reconnect with their passion and purpose for serving others!
In my work over the past 28 years with individuals and groups in health care settings, I have seen firsthand how much of a difference a compassionate, caring and attuned helping professional can make in the life of a vulnerable individual who is seeking help to improve their health and well-being.
But in order for professionals to be able to sustain this level of presence and attunement, organizations must take care of their patients and staff by getting to know what it is like for them to work on the front lines and how the nature of helping can sometimes adversely affect their well-being unless there is built-in support right in the workplace.
That’s where we come in.
IHP offers offer programs dedicated to helping you and your employees to elevate the level of service that you provide by focusing on strengthening the nature of your interactions and communication with those you serve and with one another.
We also focus many of our programs on helping the helping professionals by listening carefully to the stress and struggles they face at work, teaching them effective techniques for managing stress more skillfully and helping them to reconnect to their inspiration for serving others. Invariably this improves their level of satisfaction at work and positively effects the quality of patient care they provide.
