2017 is my fourth bonus Christmas. By all accounts, I should have died from my skiing accident four years ago, but I didn’t. I’m alive and I get to spend this time with my family. What are You Thinking? No Really…What are You Thinking?

As I continue my positivity practice and learn more about the mind, one theme that comes up over and over again is mindfulness.  Although I didn’t know it, I was introduced to it about 10 years ago in a yoga class and I loved it.  I thought the concept of an exercise class ending with nap time was comical, but the practice of just thinking about the breath, letting go of everything else, and simply being was profoundly relaxing.  I found it surprisingly calming and centering.  ... Reaction or Response…Which is more Effective?

Do you ever get so caught up in your busy schedules, worries or problems that you lose sight of what’s important to you and react poorly in a situation?  It happens to all of us, but with a little effort, you can shift your ineffective reaction to an appropriate and more effective response.  I would like to share a simple (but not that easy) approach to give yourself some space between stimulus and response. The first step is to recognize that you are caught up in an emotion or situation. ... The post Reaction or Response…Which is more Effective? appeared first on Steve H Lawton. ...

A Life Lesson from a High School Womens Lacrosse Team

It was senior night at the Westwood High School lacrosse field and my daughter’s lacrosse experience was ending with the final game of her senior year. For 13 seniors, it was a bittersweet moment where they would play their last game together before spreading their wings and going off to colleges around the country. Their opponent was St. Andrews, one of several ‘Saint schools’ as we call them, that have a consistently strong lacrosse team that beats us convincingly each year.... A Gratitude Journal – Scientifically Proven to Improve your #AttitudeFitness

I started doing a gratitude journal in June of last year. I remember my first entry was the day after a bad day at work, where nothing seemed to go my way. I’m not sure why I chose that day to start this, but I honestly remember struggling to come up with three things I was grateful for. As I look back at my journal entry for that day, the things I was grateful for were simple but powerful. My first entry includes a compliment someone gave to me about what I’ve meant to them, a compliment someone gave me about one of my children, and something my son did.... Start Your Day by Reciting Your Intentions…Out Loud

Yes, do it out loud. That makes a difference. Your intentions are your goals or desires; they are what motivate you to take action. When you actually verbalize your intentions and hear them, not just think about them, you engage more of your brain in the activity and you are less likely to get distracted. It may feel weird, but do it anyway. When you recite your intentions at the start of the day, it changes your mood and you are more likely to make progress on them....
