Reared in Hartsville, SC with a melting pot of history that heralds from a Panamanian and African American descent, Nefateri has a heart for helping others. From an early age her life was shaped from having to come face-to-face with domestic violence, sexual assault, verbal, and emotional abuse. Though her defeats were stacked in mounds that could consume who she was, she has used each bout of defeat to catapult her to platforms advocating for awareness and advocacy for women and child abuse in any form. She is the author of Cries From Within and Identity Chasers which were both released with an aim to help others shed the pain of their not so pretty past. Aside from her literary works, she is an Executive Film Producer of an independent film based off of her life story (Escaped To Tell) and the CEO/Founder of a non-profit organization called Healing Hurts. The vision for this outreach is to provide supportive services to single parent families with a focus on raising awareness and advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Nefateri is an authorized facilitator and active partner with Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse program, a speaker for R.A.I.N.N. (Rape Assault Incest National Network), and a certified victim’s advocate. She is married and has a blended family of five.
