Michael Richards was the founder, principle owner and CEO of a software company whose sales reached thousands of customers in over twenty countries, before selling the company in 2010. An admonition to 'go do something good' from his original mentor put him on a quest to find a way to combine the things he loved (science, being outside, watching kids learn new stuff) in a way that would 'do something good.' The result has been the founding of Science Camps of America, a 501(c)3 profit that Mr. Richards has founded and directs. Mr. Richards was also a founding director of a Hawaii public charter school, Ka'u Learning Academy, on Hawaii Island. Mr. Richards' mission is simple: get kids outside to learn science.
In sharing that message, Michael has discovered his voice - realising that his thirty-plus years of experience as an entrepreneur, software designer, manager, director and teacher, and his incredible opportunity to follow a new dream, give him a unique perspective on education, STEM learning, entrepreneurship, informal learning, camp and kids.
Recent speaking engagements have included the American Camp Association National Conference (The role of camps in education), the Self-Storage Association National Convention (Getting passionate about Customer Service) and numerous civic organizations in Hawaii and on the mainland (camp, teens, schools and education).
