Growing up on the west side of Chicago.La Tonya knows the pain of growing up with a mother addicted to drugs. She has experienced the harsh reality of emotional and sexual abuse and homelessness while attending high school.These experiences would have broken the souls of most people, however; they encouraged Brown to break the cycle and make a difference.
La Tonya is able to address these crucial issues and help people re-discover the great gifts within themselves. She has brought light to her struggles and have taken a negative situation and made it a positive one. Diverse, challenging, captivating, relevant, and powerful are a few words that describe Brown. The power lies in the authenticity of her life story. La Tonya has broken the chains that once bound her.
From pressing through high school to pursuing higher education. she is now the Founder of F.A.M.I.L.Y (Future American Minds Interested in Leading Youth), Leading Ladies (empowerment program for teen girls), and Director of documentary Project From Me 2 U. La Tonya’s creativity knows no limits. She has defied the odds and continues to strive for newer heights.
She has over 15 years experience in educating teachers and students in schools on how to communicate and engage with each other, empowering youth and adults in and out of the criminal justice system. She has to help youth who face problems, such as disabilities, bullying, being the bully, abuse, or poverty and counsel parents.
La Tonya has excellent networking skills and has the ability to establish and maintain rapport with staff, client, and community partners
