Biography

Harry King is in huge demand as a seminar leader. His participants give him the highest marks as he delivers research based, common sense, practical, and proven strategies that are guaranteed to enhance your sales, referrals and classroom management strategies. Harry has 2 degrees in education, one in Special Education the other in Elementary Education. Since graduating, he has been in sales, management and education (or as it’s now known as Edutainment) for more than 20 years. In sales, Harry specialized in business to business consultative sales and referral based selling to professionals and executives.

          Harry worked for several national and international companies in the management consulting, family recreation, mortgage and financing and online advertising industries. As the Sales Manager for the George S. May International consulting firm, he increased the company’s sales in New York state from 2 million, to over 12 million annually. At a family recreation company, he created and then quadrupled the sales through a summer education program. Harry spent many years with Verizon SuperPages.com, where he was the number one salesperson worldwide at 526% to quota. He later worked with several other internet companies, most notably, Westlaw / Findlaw.com and ThomasNet.com before becoming a Corporate Trainer for the US Department of Education. In addition, he spent many years as the ‘MaryKay Man’, one of only a few men in the army of women that sell the number one brand of skin care and cosmetics in the country... someday ask him about his unique marketing niche and how he became super successful using the strategies he now teaches!
 

          Harry’s philosophy about teaching is simple. He agrees with Madeline Hunter when she said, “Kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care!” Many think she was being too “warm and fuzzy” but what she meant was you are not going to reach some kids academically until you first reach them on the “human to human” level. Sometimes the subject matter in our classrooms can’t compete with the “drama” in their lives. The main ingredient missing in a lot of our classrooms today is a “connection with kids.” Harry believes that research is clear, when students know you value them as a human being, not just another student; they will work harder for you and challenge you less. He also believes teachers don’t need any more theory and new, trendy programs with catchy names.

          Harry believes teachers need to be given research based, proven, practical strategies and applications that teachers can start implementing immediately – without throwing anything out that is working in their classroom. Harry believes educators have the toughest job in America as they are asked every day to wear many different hats – mom, dad, nurse, counselor, teacher, advisor, judge, jury, lawyer – just to name a few. He also understands that students come into our classrooms and schools with different backgrounds and cultures and their cognitive abilities, assets and experiences are just as wide ranging.  Sometimes the only thing students have in common is their age! The “one size fits all” approach does not work anymore.

          Harry also knows the biggest unchallenged assumption by many today (especially politicians) about education is that kids are coming to school willing and ready to learn. As educators, we know this is not the case. We have a generation of kids coming to our schools basically un-socialized. Many students are learning behavior from Beavis and Butthead, MTV, Bart Simpson, Jersey Shores and a myriad of other influences.  Harry is dedicated to helping educators be successful through motivation, inspiration, humor and a common-sense approach to stress management. Most importantly, he leaves educators with many proven, practical strategies they can implement immediately! 

          Harry King has been a volunteer coach, official and committeeman for the Special Olympics for 34 years. He was  was nominated in 2003 for the Junior Achievement National Volunteer of the Year Award. He is a recipient of the national ‘Volunteer Excellence Award’ for the largest fraternity in the world, Sigma Phi Epsilon. He volunteers active of foster home for two dog rescue organizations;  Willing Hearts Dalmatian Rescue and Hamburg Mutts for Freedom.
