Biography

Dr. Godwin Onuoha is a political risk expert with over a decade and a half continental-level and country-specific expertise in Africa. He demonstrates a very deep grasp of prospective foresight in Africa and provides the most comprehensive conception of political risks and opportunities on the continent.

Dr. Onuoha was a former postdoctoral research fellow at the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS), Princeton University, where he participated in the Seminar on Global Systemic Risk, and designed and taught a course, titled: The Resource Curse and Development in Africa, which he periodically teaches at Princeton University as an adjunct instructor. Prior to that, he was the African Research Fellow (ARF) and Senior Research Specialist (SRS) at the Human Sciences Research Council in Pretoria, South Africa, and founding Vice–President, Marketing and Research, OILTRAK Energy Limited, a Lagos-Based oil and gas research and consulting company. He also had a stint in the banking industry in Nigeria.

Dr. Onuoha is a regular contributor to the PRIX Global Political Risk Index for Oil Markets. He has communicated his research findings on country and regional risk assessments to high-level government, non-governmental organizations and diplomatic forums and agencies. Dr. Onuoha has been invited to present his work to academic audiences in Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (Princeton University); The Graduate Centre (CUNY); Institute for Global Law and Policy (Harvard University); Centre for Research on Inequality, Human Security and Ethnicity (Oxford University); South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA), and the Tri-Continental CLACSO/IDEA/CODESRIA Sixth South-South Institute. He has also been invited to address policy and practitioner groups in The Africa Program and The Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity (Woodrow Wilson Centre); Department of International Relations and Cooperation (South Africa); and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Senegal).

Dr. Onuoha's expertise transcends the popular, undifferentiated and journalistic projections of Africa portrayed in the media. His expertise combines historically-anchored and contemporary trends in a manner that elicits reasonable projections into the future of the continent. Through his speaking, training and consulting, he reflects the client's unique interests and concerns, and generates value by:

Speaking: Creating an awareness about specific political risks and crisis;

Training: Providing the skills and competencies needed to solve these political risks and crisis;

Consulting: Engaging in a long-term behaviour to sustain change over a period of time;

His country-level and continent-wide expertise gives him a leading edge in tracking risks and opportunities, as well as the ability to connect politics, markets, business development and outcomes.
