Biography

Internationally renowned author, scientist, and educator Dr. Matthew Bobrowsky has been presenting amazing programs to audiences, large and small, for over two decades.  He lectures and writes for all levels, having the knack for making educational concepts both understandable and exciting!  His presentations are interactive — using live demonstrations and audience participation — excellent for after-dinner talks and keynote addresses.

Whether Dr. Bobrowsky is dazzling the audience with the wonders of the universe, presenting entertaining physics demonstrations, or letting audiences experience — hands-on — the latest in education, such as Phenomenon-Based Learning, you will come away feeling enlightened, impressed, and entertained.

Dr. Bobrowsky has presented programs countless times, in the U.S., abroad, and on cruise ships.  (They have among the highest standards for speakers, as they require continued customer satisfaction for their business.)  In addition, he serves as a “Harlow Shapley Lecturer” for the American Astronomical Society, and is a Nifty-Fifty” speaker for the USA Science & Engineering Festival.

Dr. Bobrowsky has received numerous awards for presenting to non-scientists:

  • Recipient of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents award for teaching excellence (given to the top three instructors out of 7000)
  • Recipient of the Stanley J. Drazek Teaching Excellence award (given to the top two instructors out of 800)
  • Twice received Teaching Recognition Awards from UMUC (given to instructors in the top 1%)
  • Recipient of the “Author of the Year” award from CTA, Inc.

These awards attest to his ability to make the world of education accessible and enjoyable for everyone.  Dr. Bobrowsky has taught at the Delaware State University, the University of Maryland, at the Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Education, lectured in planetariums, observatory open houses, and for various public and educational groups, including pre-service teachers.  He gives keynote addresses on research-based pedagogical methods, astronomy, the process of science, science vs. pseudoscience, Phenomenon-Based Learning, and many other educational topics.  (Just ask.)  His presentations often have an interdisciplinary flavor, for example connecting ELA and science, and connecting content to our day-to-day lives.

He conducts professional development workshops for teachers on research-based practices in education, provides entertaining presentations of science demonstrations, including the “Physics I.Q. Test,” where the audience gets to predict what is going to happen, and other educational topics.

Dr. Bobrowsky also talks about his astronomical work, using observatories both on the ground and in space, including the Hubble Space Telescope.  One of his presentations is about the Stingray Nebula, which he discovered.
