Award-winning filmmaker, Sylvia Binsfeld studied fine art at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, but then ended up starting a career as an actress, after auditioning for a play on a dare. She joined the Screen Actors Guild. Frustrated with the scripts, Sylvia very quickly moved to the other side of the camera where she has more control over the messages she is putting out in the world.
Sylvia’s first solo attempt at writing, producing, and directing won her the first place Telly Award. She decided to launch her own production company, DreamWeaver Films, where she produces entertaining, thought-provoking films that elevate society.
Because children today grow up in such a fast-paced culture and are constantly inundated with adult information, Sylvia was inspired to create the award-winning short fantasy film, Dorme, the first film in the series. Soon after she authored the book, Dorme: A Magical Dreamland Visit—which, together with the Dorme lullaby film is meant to bring back the innocent imagination Sylvia remembered from her own childhood, along with messages of love, peace, safety and connection.
A couple years ago, Sylvia Binsfeld read an article by Paul Kingsnorth titled, "The Witness". After decades of fighting to save the environment, Paul stopped, believing no one heard the message in time, and that it’s too late to save us…we will be the first species to cause our own extinction. The top scientists in the world back his observations and have been speaking out for years.
Hearing the urgency, but looking at her children, Sylvia was not quite ready to throw in the towel. She reflected on all of the other concerns she had with what is going on in the world, and thought about what would have the power to create mass change, by creating a change in consciousness? The answer came to her...the media...the media has tremendous power, a global reach, but at this time much of it has been used in ways detrimental to society. Sylvia founded the Conscious Media Movement, where she encourages filmmakers and writers of ALL genres, to collectively help with the healing of the planet by raising mass conscious through the media, and additionally encourages audience members that there are ways to help activate this change in their lives and others.
