Program Title:
International Blunders - Cultural Do's and Don'ts For the World Traveler
How not to be the "Ugly American" when traveling abroad.
It is fun to travel and explore exotic places. It is even more fun and rewarding if you have a better understanding of the people and cultures you are meeting. This workshop explores the inadvertent messages and cultural mistakes we may be making through everyday gestures, actions and statements. It addresses different interpretations of common body language and gestures, cultural and religious taboos, different communication and business styles, tipping, acceptable levels of formality and informality, visits into people’s homes, gift giving, etiquette at religious or sacred sites, protocol at entertainment or sporting events, and even use of unfamiliar toilets and bathing facilities. This workshop is designed for anyone who is planning to travel or just want to have a better understanding of different cultures and societies. The information is customized for each audience and presented in an informal and entertaining style, making it interesting for groups of all ages.
