The Key to Success: Influence
When you increase your influence, you increase your options.

With two speakers (male/female, husband/wife, blue-collar/white-collar) your audience gets an experience that's twice as dynamic and twice as interesting. Maxwell said, "Competence + Character + Connection = Influence" In Defining Influence (one of eight of my leadership books), I focus on helping the individual identify and understand the character-based principles that make human influence so complex and dynamic. Everything rises and falls on influence. Nothing will impact your professional and personal life more than your ability to influence others. Are you looking for transformation in your personal or professional life, your team, your organization? If so, you will need more influence. Do you want better results? If so, you will need more influence. Do you want to build a team that works for each other and with each other? If so, you will need more influence. This program will help you unleash your potential by taking the complex principles of influence and making them simple. In Defining Influence, I define trust as the foundation of influence, and intention as the foundation of trust. If our intent is to motivate (mutual benefit/we win), we have a foundation upon which to build trust. However, if our intent is to manipulate (personal benefit only/I win), we create distrust and therefore have no foundation upon which to build trust. This is a principle that applies in all situations. However, another related principle, and there are many because trust is very dynamic, is the fact that whether we are motivating or manipulating is determined not by us, but by others based on their values. Therefore, we may exhibit the same exact behavior and build trust with one person while creating distrust with another at the same exact moment. One key to building trust among a group or team is to have a unifying purpose supported by shared values fueled by motivation on the outside which can be converted to inspiration on the inside. Amy Cuddy said it best, "If someone you're trying to influence doesn't trust you, you're not going to get very far; in fact, you might even elicit suspicion because you come across as manipulative."
