If 30 years ago you would have predicted my future and told me I, Theresa, was going to be a speaker in front of large audiences, I would have laughed at you and said you were crazy. You see I began stuttering at age 3 ½ after being sexually abused by my uncle. I ran down to my aunt and said to her “he, he, he pinched me” to which she said “he does that to everyone” and shoed me away. When I returned home and tried to tell my parents the same thing, they didn’t understand what I was saying. My grade school years were filled with speech therapy classes but I was riddled with anxiety, always anticipating the inevitable failure to speak; I was embarrassed, I felt as if people pitied me and I became disappointment and even disgusted with myself and my inability to speak without stuttering. My teenage and early adult years were filled with an eating disorder and a dependency on others for approval and love. I defined myself by my work, by being the mother of my 3 wonderful children and by my marriage yet somewhere inside of me I was screaming to be heard and to speak. So you are probably wondering, how did she find her voice and get comfortable speaking? Well as you can tell I did get find my voice and I haven’t been able to stop talking since. But to hear the rest of the story, my journey from being voiceless and invisible to a confident and successful business woman, well, you‘ll just going to have to hire me to speak to your audience. It’s not that my story is unique; we all have a story to tell, yet, I’m told that the mere fact that I can stand before others and speak my story, activates the desire and inspires others to do what they could never imagine possible. Email me at the address below so we can talk about your event and see my message will inspire your audience. I can promise you that your audiences will not only find a piece of themselves in my story about “Breaking the Silence and Speaking Your Truth,” but they find within themselves their voice that wants to be heard. Hi, I’m Theresa Gale, a speaker, and I look forward to hearing from you.
