Who Pays for What?
A Comparison and Contrast of Insurances Providing Care Services for the Elderly: Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicaid & Long Term Care

PRESENTED BY:

Too often, retirees become familiar with their medical insurance choices once they use the Medicare systems for treatment. Having been revised and revised again since its creation in 1965, no wonder there is confusion about Medicare! This course outlines both “traditional Medicare” plans and then contrasts it with the more recent “Medicare Advantage” plans and the new Drug Plan. A case study of an elderly woman is used throughout the course to compare her choices and claims under the various systems. Next, the course overviews the additional 10 (!) “MediGap” (Medicare Supplement) plan choices used to supplement traditional Medicare. Regulations to protect the consumer while selecting a plan are explained. We also show how someone of limited means using traditional Medicare could go bankrupt and thus qualify for Medicaid-the government provided medical program for those with little or no income. Currently, Medicaid actually pays the majority of nursing home claims in NY State. So finally, the course explains how an someone can live out their final days without being reduced to the government determining their care. It is no longer appropriate to be told “Just call 1-800 MEDICARE”. As taxpayers, we all need to understand the coverage and choices for seniors in this country. This course is relevant to everyone! (This 4 or 8 hour course could be filed for Continuing Education credit approval for insurance and financial professionals)
