In this one hour keynote I share a story of how I learned to deal with difficult people and build a healthy self-esteem around conflict using humor and play. Participants will: - Identify their own malevolent superheroes (difficult people and situations in their own lives) - Create a new, more playful perspective through which to look at challenging people and situations. Knowledge base: It has been said that comedy equals tragedy plus time. I show participants how to shorten the "time" piece of this equation when dealing with difficult people and situations. Participant objectives: - Identify the areas in their own lives where they can use humor to deal with challenging people or situations. - Discuss how the brain processes images and humor when we are challenged with changing our thoughts. - Create their own malevolent superhero image to use when dealing with difficult people. Research base: The benefits of CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) are well-known to most of us. I take CBT a step further by adding humor and images. Our brains learn better and faster with the addition of humor and images. This is documented in research. Audience appeal: We ALL have challenging people and situations. I always sprinkle participation at key points throughout my keynotes.
