Growing up in Darien, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Matt excelled in athletics and embraced his role as a team leader and influencer. He was team captain in high school and was widely recruited. He ultimately chose Indiana University where he was team captain from 2009-2010. Mayberry earned All Big-Ten Honors from many different media outlets his senior season and led the Hoosiers in tackles his junior and senior years.
Matt is the current Indiana University’s record holder for most sacks in a single game and was awarded the team recipient for the prestigious Howard Brown Award which exemplifies leadership, courage and work ethic. With a 4.45 forty yard dash, Mayberry was signed by the NFL Chicago Bears in 2010. Reaching the pinnacle of his sport, he suffered a life- changing ankle injury. It was this life-changing event that inspired Mayberry to embrace his true passion – his true “gift” and “blessing in disguise” of helping others achieve success by learning how to turn failures into gifts through his speaking engagements.
