That's who he is, and who he will always be.
Mack Story is a published author, leadership expert, lean manufacturing consultant, and a passionate speaker that will engage, motivate and inspire your audience with a call to action focused on leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. Ria was sexually and emotionally abused by her father, from age 12 until she left home at 19. Her story is one of overcoming adversity, transforming her life, and of the leadership lessons that she successfully applied in the process, which she believes anyone can use to transform their own life. Read more about Ria and her story in her book, Ria’s Story From Ashes To Beauty.
Ria has always been determined that her difficult life throughout her teenage years would not hold her back from reaching her potential. Realizing that anytime we are “stuck” in a situation, at work, at home or in life, we have to make some changes in order to change our circumstances, Ria believes that change can be challenging, but without it, there is no improvement. We must have the courage to create the changes we want to make in life.
Ria was home schooled throughout her school years and grew up on a farm in rural Alabama. Isolated much of the time without school or church group activities, Ria learned valuable life skills like critical thinking and learning skills, but lacked social interaction to give her an opportunity to develop people skills.
Once she left home, she learned to not only interact with people successfully but eventually learned how to be a leader in any environment. She found a job as a waitress, starting at the very bottom rung of the ladder, making $2.13 an hour. Determined to excel, she worked her way up to management, working full time and going to school at night for years to earn her first degree. Later, she was able to complete a Bachelors Degree through an accelerated program and even went on to earn her MBA, all with a cumulative 4.0 GPA.
Ria worked in the healthcare industry for over ten years, most recently as the Director of Regulatory Affairs at a large community hospital, before resigning from corporate life to pursue her passion for inspirational speaking and leadership development.
Ria is published author and also a fierce health and wellness advocate. She is a certified fitness instructor, teaches group fitness classes several times a week, runs marathons and is an avid mountain biker – winning the 2011 and 2012 State Mountain Biking Championships in both Alabama and Georgia.
Ria has a passion for sharing what she has learned about finding the courage to create changes in ourselves and in our circumstances by growing, moving forward and developing as leaders, right where we are.
