George has amassed 20 years of risk management experience. George is versed in safety programs, multiple quality methodologies, regulatory compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery, privacy, fleet operations and sustainability. George has utilized this expertise in For Profit, Nonprofit and Governmental Organizations.
George is a retired Army Major of the Infantry. During this time of service, George served various roles including Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Company Commander. George earned a Bronze Star for service in Afghanistan in 2002. As an Officer in the US Army, George mastered logistics, finance and operations, George was Ranger and Airborne qualified and trained in Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Hazards and rail operations.
George spent three (3) years with GE Capital/Penske Truck leasing as a process improvement team leader utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies. George trained and coached others at GE in the use of quality to improve profitability and operations. George acted as an independent consultant to various entities to include the Federal Government and private enterprises.
George consulted in the largest deployment of Six Sigma with the Department of Defense. During this engagement, George oversaw the publication of his work in iSixSigma magazine and acted as a contributor to their quality blog. The results of this engagement saved US taxpayers over $100mm.
George possess entrepreneurial know how as a former Midas Franchisee and real estate investor. George was the owner operator of a Midas auto repair franchise. During this time, George embraced the 4321 strategy presented by MIDAS to transform operations from simply brakes and mufflers to general repair, maintenance, fleet services and tires. The results were a doubling of sales over a 12 month period.
George previously worked as an enterprise risk manager with Recall Total Information Management and Iron Mountain. Responsible for upwards of 100 facilities, George engaged in the safety, security, privacy, compliance, disaster recovery and business continuity for these sites and assigned personnel. Additionally, George managed the sustainability strategy for North America including GreenHouse Gas inventory and carbon footprint reduction through energy management and lifecycle analysis. George also oversaw the management of 550 commercial fleet vehicles and associated drivers. This includes both DOT and non-regulated operators.
George holds an MBA from Troy University as well a Postgraduate Diploma from Emory University in Sustainability and pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Risk from New York University. George is certified by OSHA under General Industry Standards for safety. George has also conducted research and published scholarly works on operations efficiency and sustainability.
George has an extensive volunteer background including service to the Red Cross, the Birmingham Police Academy, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the National Bone Marrow Registry (Be the Match), the Adult Wish Foundation, Man vs, Diabetes, Morehouse School of Medicine, Emory Winship Cancer Center and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Most notably, George was named volunteer of the year in 2013 by the LLS-Georgia Chapter. George served on numerous panels for the Morehouse School of Medicine, LLS and the Veterans Administration. George also participated in the 2012 LLS Man/Woman of the Year fundraiser which garnered $675,000 for blood cancer research and patient services. George participated in lobbying sessions in Washington, D.C. for LLS related to drug parity for pricing and access.
George is currently Principal of a boutique consultancy-Harris & Associates which is focused on quality, risk and project management. He is also partner in a 3rd party logistics firm-Diversified Logistics Group. George serves on numerous boards to include the Homeland Security Foundation of America, the Fulton County Citizens Commission on the Environment and St. John the Evangelist Catholic School Advisory.
George’s passions lie in my family as they are my inspiration and source of strength throughout. He is focused on the environment to include preserving nature for outdoor enthusiasts like myself and my children’s grandchildren. George loves to fish, garden and farm. George is also working to help veterans transition from the military to civilian life and become thriving members of society especially wounded warriors, as he was one.
