Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. I'm Dr. Malissa McLean, founder of Paragon Lifestyles and certified member of the John Maxwell team. Paragon means, a person or thing viewed as a model of excellence. Regardless of how accomplished a person or organization is we can all strive to obtain a higher level in anything we aspire to do. Paragon Lifestyles references a consistent commitment to a lifestyle of self-evaluation and self-improvement.
I have worked in numerous fields over my career and offer 17 years of management and leadership experience. I have been enlisted in the United States Army, an officer in the United States Air Force, and a member of industry supporting government sponsored projects. Today, I supervise a team of 14 as a government civilian employee at the U.S. Department of Labor. I am also responsible for task management and payroll for over 60 contract personnel. Regardless of the role I have during the day, I consistently receive requests to provide mentoring, coaching and career advice. I am currently participating in a formal interagency mentoring program among statistical agencies in the Washington, D.C. area.
I am the younger of two daughters. My father is retired from the Army. My mother is bi-polar (manic depressive and schizophrenic) and has begun to develop dementia in her later years. I have been married and divorced. My experiences allow me to relate first hand to friends and families of those with military affiliations, emotional challenges as well as the struggles of women (married or single) in all age groups. I have a passion for working with youth and young adults. I also enjoy speaking inspiration into both young men and women as they begin to leave high school and prepare for college. My life experiences and personal challenges are huge contributors to my desire to inspire others. Sharing my very honest personal experiences have proven to be the best discussions. Candid conversations facilitate helping people save time - by hearing real experiences as well as learning alternatives to avoid mistakes we can all channel any negative experiences into progressive leaps forward.
I have academic degrees specializing in business, organization, management, leadership, human relations, conflict resolution, and computer programming. In addition, I have a wide variety of professional certifications and training concentrations such as the SANS GIAC Security Leadership Certification and the Information Technology Information Library Foundation Certification. My portfolio also includes an in residence course on Collaborative Leadership through the Office of Personnel Management. Regardless of the venue, the size of the audience or the topic you need discussed, I have enough experiences, training and lessons learned to help you and your group view things in a positive manner. More importantly I have a true desire to inspire and help you as well as every member of your organization.
My professional development pursuits and commitment to leader and people development are unparalleled. I have a sense of community service which can help equip others with the mindset and work ethic they need to excel in whatever industry they choose. My skills also enable me to identify and remove barriers while further augmenting any organization’s efforts for transparent communication, teamwork and a boost in morale. I look forward to inspiring you all through keynote speaking opportunities.
I can’t wait to meet you!
