I am a working scientist who has an interest in a wide range of scientific topics including:
- Military Space, Space Power, Space & Society, Orbital Debris
- Science Communication
- Science and Society
- A scientist's take on politics
- Women in Science/STEM
I obtained my Ph.D. in astrophysicsfrom the University of Calgary and have worked for the National Research Council of Canada (at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in Penticton BC) and for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (at the Sub-Millimeter Array in Hilo Hawaii). I am currently a full time employee of Defence Research and Development Canada, where I work in the area of space surveillance and space systems.
I am also the owner and president of Luminance Communications, a company I founded to share with other technical professionals my passion for, and knowledge of, presentations and speaking skills.
I feel very strongly that science has an important role in society, but not simply as the source of new technology. Science has a central role to play in helping to maintain health and safety not simply for humans but for the entire world. In addition, science helps us to understand the universe in general, and our place within it.
