I have had an exciting life. I have flown low over the ocean to detect Soviet submarines, served as the team leader of the US Navy's first anti-hijacking team, pulled survivors from the churning sea while commanding a Coast Guard rescue boat, helped protect two US Presidents and the Queen of England, bought drugs while working undercover for the DEA, served on a SWAT team, pursued and arrested felons as a police officer, rescued people out of burning buildings as a firefighter and company officer, trained US Navy security forces in Pearl Harbor, hunted for the remains of our missing World War Two soldiers and sailors on Pacific battlegrounds for the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, and represented criminal defendant’s in trial.
For part time work I loaded luggage for Eastern Airlines, was a short order cook, security guard, pushed wheel chairs at the airport, trained military and civilian responders in confined space and high angle rescue, taught for the University of Phoenix and the National Fire Academy, trained future fire command staff, made speeches and presentations at several professional venues, and owned a small business.
Throughout these various challenging occupations, I learned a tremendous amount about leadership, team work, motivation, safety, risk management, cost management, customer service, humor, and courage. I also became skilled at transferring my knowledge to others to help them meet the same, or different, challenges.
