Joni Aldrich is an entrepreneur and visionary. She founded Cancer Lifeline Publications in 2008, and her online outlet Basket of Care (www.BasketofCare.com) in 2011. When we hear the news that a friend, coworker, neighbor, or family member has fallen ill, our first response is “What can I do?” Often, we just want to send something along that lets them know how much we care and that we’re thinking of them. Flowers or plants just won't do.

More about Joni: Having been raised in a home where the words "I can't" were never used in a sentence, Joni Aldrich learned from a young age the tools and tenacity required to persevere throughout life’s challenges. Joni worked for many multi-million dollar companies throughout her career in research, analysis, and documentation. After the tragic loss of her 45-year-old husband to cancer, Joni found herself putting those personal and professional skills to use in a way she had never imagined: writing and speaking about many of life's most difficult challenges, and focused support for those in need of help. Now, she takes to the airwaves before an international audience for five hours every week, and reaches many others through her books, speaking and syndicated column.

Speaking of inspiration:

To be inspiring, one must have experienced something powerful enough to shake the foundation of his or her life, and have survived it with a broadened perspective as well as the desire to help others. When Joni lost her 45-year-old husband to cancer (a disease that affects so many families), she wanted to rebuild, pick up the pieces and move on. But even more than that, she knew that her story needed to be told to help others better navigate the obstacles that she and Gordon had faced.

Speaking of motivated:

There is no greater motivator than knowing that your words and actions have the power to positively influence another person’s future. With that in mind, Joni looks at each speaking engagement as an opportunity to help others reach deep within themselves to tap their true potentials.

Speaking on topics that are pertinent:

How many people in your group or organization have not been affected by one of these topics: cancer, caregiving, or grief? Through years of education, experience, and research, Joni has been featured in print media such as USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, and Newsday. She has also interviewed with hundreds of radio stations, including such famous personalities as Dr. Barton Goldsmith. Contact Joni @ joni@jonialdrich.com for more information.

A few of Joni's books:

Following two years of research into a practical cancer approach that anyone can follow, her first book The Saving of Gordon: Lifelines to W-I-N Against Cancer has been described as having your hand held through the cancer experience.

But that wasn't enough. Joni wanted to reach out to families that were suffering through grief. The Losing of Gordon: A Beacon Through the Storm Called "Grief" is written around 18 inspirational letters that Joni wrote to Gordon during her grief "process." It includes valuable lessons to lead readers to their own internal beacon to survive the loss of a loved one.

One of the most difficult challenges during her husband's illness came when he was diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer. Within hours, Joni's gentle and caring husband looked the same and sounded the same--but he wasn't the same. It took her two years of counseling to convert the emotional wounds to scars of closure. When Joni met her mentor and the co-author of her fourth and fifth books, Neysa Peterson, another milestone was reached. Connecting through Compassion: Guidance for Family and Friends of a Brain Cancer Patient, and Understanding with Compassion: Help For Loved Ones and Caregivers of a Brain Illness Patient are for caregivers of dementia, Alzheimer's disease and stroke patients.

Joni embodies her hope quote every day: "HOPE: a one syllable word that will keep you going when all of the other more impressive words have failed to sustain you."
