Heron Island Guides

Eight-Time Author Noted for History-Laden Travel Guidebooks

Travels from: St. Petersburg, FL
Fee Range: $1 - $500*

Captain Rick Rhodes has more than just a few stories to tell.  And his passion to share American History with audiences is infectious!

Rick is well-traveled in the Americas.  By the time he was 22, he hiked the Appalachian Trail, and visited all 48 contiguous states --most by motorcycle.  For 18 years, he lived aboard boats --three of them, and twice sailed his 33-footer to Central America.  In South America, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer.  He has taught engineering for the Army and he has taught sailing.  Wherever he sails, Rick engrosses himself in the local history.

Honduras and Its Bay IslandsAboard his boats, Rick has traveled and researched from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico, most of Florida’s upper Gulf Coast, and the entire length of the Ohio River along with its many tributaries.  In St. Petersburg Florida, Rick is an active member of the local YMCA, Bay the Area Professional Writer’s Guild, and Toastmasters.  Visit www.rickrhodes.com to learn more.

"I have had the opportunity on more than one occasion to hear author Rick Rhodes speak and I am always intrigued by his remarks.  He definitely does his research and you can see his passion for history.   It comes through in his talks, which help to make his presentations insightful, educational and entertaining.  I do not know where he has been all these years, when he should have been on the speaking circuit, but I am glad to see he is now out in the world sharing with people his knowledge and experience.  If he is coming to your community, by all means, try to go see his talk.  It will be well  worth your time, that's for sure." -- Dale W. Hutchings, Marketing  Specialist, St. Petersburg, Florida

"Rick Rhodes brings history to life by including interesting anecdotes.  He turns the lecture hall into a time machine revealing the truth of characters by helping his audience see through their eyes and feel their emotions.  His dynamic speaking style makes for an entertaining lecture." -- Sheila Wasserman BS, MBA business owner and freelance writer
