Keynote Speaker

A public speaker, author, professor and former television personality.  Dr. Thomas is a positive, informative, funny, energetic, and an excellent performer who brings out the best in people.  Born in the Caribbean, Dr. Thomas has appear a 4-H events, Youth Confernce, Political Convention, Swimming Association meetings, Adult Education Associations, Churches, Homeless Shelters, Community Centers, workshops, Mental health and MORDD events, Dinners and weddings.

 

Consultant/Trainer

Provide consultant services to non-profit organizations, churches, youth center, Beacon school program, in program development, youth development and engagement, events planning, provide individual and group counseling in youth centers, group homes, homeless shelter, provide in-service training, City, State and Federal compliance audits and grants writing and training throughout NYC, conduct Office of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities Staff In-Service training for group homes in NYC, Long Island, and Westchester County, Present behavior plans to Human Rights Committees, advocate on behalf of people with developmental disabilities with OMRDD.  Provide program modification to restore funding for youth and community organizations.

 

Professor, Graduate School of Management

Lecture for Master of Public Administration Program with 300 enrolled students at college with 1,700 students. Teach students about governmental and economic policies, values and ethics in decision-making, supervisory management, organizational behavior, market research strategies for citizen participation and proposal writing, Guide students through organizational research on marketing needs

 

Lecturer

Delivered two-hour lectures each month to groups of adult women from Women’s Health Education and Resource Network in major Harlem, New York hospital. Lecture on building healthy relationships for African-Americans and on parenting, self-esteem issues, domestic violence and more.

Psychotherapist/Behavior Specialist

Design and implement programs to improve emotional, intellectual, interpersonal and vocational functioning of individuals and groups as one of agency’s 4,000 therapists. Establish and sustain ethical therapeutic relationships with clients. Screen, assess and diagnose motivational, cognitive and emotional status of clients. Counsel families and caregivers in ways to manage psychosocial adjustment, mental health and disability issues. Recommend community resources to clients. Measure and document treatment outcomes.

- Driving force behind community therapy technique that enables clients to open up and gain control over their emotions through interaction with community resources in addition to psychotherapy.

- Build, strengthen and maintain excellent relationships with other organizations that assists agency in securing new accounts.  Work with individuals with HIV/AIDS.

 

Commissioner of Youth Empowerment                                                                                      

Appointed to Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports, Carnival and Community Development with 400 staff to advise on community organization and national youth policies. Hosted weekly radio and television live talk show, “Feedback.” Developed sourcing programs that generated financing. Served as Chairperson for Sectoral Committee and National Youth Policy Committee and served as member of National Drug Council.

§         Designed innovative community-based youth programs that strengthened youth groups and clubs.

§         Established 4-H clubs nationwide and started youth leadership certificate program that trained youth workers under tutelage of Florida International University professors.

§         Proposed creation of National Youth Agency funded by taxes on alcoholic beverages.

Hosted eighth Caribbean Youth Conference and first Caribbean Youth Festival attended by over 300 youth.

 

Special Advisor to Honorable Deputy Prime Minister

Assist Minister of Public Works, Public Utilities, Aviation, Transport, Housing and Communications with project management, scheduling and general policy advice. Served as ministry representative in meetings with U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Interfaced with constituents. Published public relations articles.

§         Raised in excess of US$155,000 for youth programs at Caribbean Youth Conference.

§         Managed six lower-house parliamentary reelection campaigns for Honorable Minister by directing multiple functions including finances, volunteers, campaign materials, campaign messages, flyers and press releases.

 

Therapist

Launched private psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and counseling service for individuals, couples, families and groups. Provided therapy for depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addictions, self-esteem issues, lesbian and gay concerns and work-related problems. Promoted HIV/AIDS prevention and taught coping strategies.

§         Guided families and children through wide range of issues, helping many families heal and bond.

§         Awarded medal of recognition as founder of Health and Family Life Drama Group.

 

Director of Recreation and Education

Plan and manage recreational and educational programs for largest family shelter in U.S. Hired, trained and supervised 25 staff and college interns. Presided over fair hearings for discharged residents. Represented agency on community boards and organizations.

§         Developed and implemented on-site general education programs and summer camp that enhanced future opportunities and increased family stability for about 1,400 people including 600 children.

 

Dr. Thomas received a Presidential scholarship from Metropolitan College  of New York for Academic Excellence undergraduate and graduate studies. Dr. Thomas has published several articles, Author  his first Book “Breaking the Bonds of Dependence”.  Dr. Thomas was the chair and host of Youth Conference “Harlem Youths 2000 and Beyond” with 6,000 youths in attendance. Dr. Thomas received a medal of Recognition as Founder of the Health and Family Life Drama Group. Dr. Thomas was presented with a Commendation from the City of New York, Office of the Comptroller for his lasting contributions to both the Caribbean American Community and New York City

Dr. Thomas holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s of Professional Studies in Human Services
