Biography

Dr. Neil is no stranger to back pain from many standpoints.  While working his way through college as a physical therapy aide, he caught a 250 pound patient from falling.  Following that severe strain, his back was never the same.  For 23 years he suffered with literally hundreds of recurring back strains.  Finally at age 38, following a fourth severe strain, he was forced to significantly decrease his activity level for 7 full years.  Neither he nor his peers could resolve the problem.

His education included a Masters Degree in Zoology (comparative anatomy and physiology), M.D. from University of Utah, 6 years of residency training including Anesthesiology and Pain Management.  As interim director for a University Pain Management Center he treated “chronic back pain” due to 28 pathologic causes.  Some of his patients had healthier backs than he did.

He resolved to leave “no stone unturned” in learning everything known about muscle strain.  Medical knowledge, physical therapy, alternative medicine and programs such as Yoga and Pilates were thoroughly research.  Through his research, 12 new scientific findings were discovered to help explain and rehabilitate the complex process of recurrent back strain.

His major goal is to share this information with others and help prevent the needless suffering caused by this true disease process.  Discoveries included specific muscles involved and detection of risk factors.  These risk factors can start in childhood.  While much investigation is still needed, back strain is now better understood and help possible for developing a healthy strain-resistant back.
