Previously the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff invited her to present its Distinguished Rockefeller lecture. She has been a distinguished Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania's W.E.B. DuBois College House as well as United College Fund Distinguished Scholar at Large. She has been named one of the Ten Most Influential African Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area.
